Bringing
a Message of Change

It
doesn’t take long to realize that our prison population
is growing steadily out of control. According to the U.S. Bureau
of Justice Statistics website, our Federal and State prisons housed
2,135,901 inmates last year. For every 100,000 people in the U.S.
there are 486 people incarcerated. While Car Angel believes that
those who commit crimes should be punished, we also believe in
teaching them how to change their ways.
American
taxpayers spend nearly one hundred billion dollars on prisons
every year. Not even 1% of that is spent on reform. As a result,
criminals aren’t learning how to change. Instead they’re
reverting right back to their old lives the moment they leave
prison. 78.8% of motor vehicle thieves are rearrested after being
released and 2.5% of rapists are arrested again for the same crime
within three years of being released.
It
was facts like these that inspired Car Angel to do something to
change the way our prison system is run. Every year, Car Angel
releases a book into the prison population. These books encourage
change from those that read them. They tell them the reality of
the life they are living and invite them to make a change in themselves
and return to society as a productive member.
Our
books save taxpayers an estimated 160,000,000 a year from prisoner
who have been changed by them have reformed from their former
lives of crime.
Death
Sentence is just one of the many books we have released into the
prisons. An excerpt from it is posted below. Read it and see if
you can figure out why our books make such a difference. We’re
not only saving Americans money, we’re making America a
safer place for everyone.
